HOW USING YOUR ARMS CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR JUMPS
Figure skating jumps require an extraordinary level of strength. Not only from your lower body but a great deal of arm and upper body strength is required as well. To teach your body how to behave, focus on these tips when you practice on and off ice.
Arms "above water" always-
From beginning to end of your jump your arms should be closer to your chin than your belly button. If the arms fall- so will you. To practice this imagine you are in a pool and have water up your belly button. Your goal is to never touch that water.
Arm placement on takeoff and landing-
Where your arms start upon takeoff are where they should be doing your landing position.
